Oleksandra Nekrutenko is 72 years old. She is a Ukrainian from the village of Borodyanka. She has lived here for 45 years.

On her birthday, February 24th, a full-scale war began in Ukraine.

She had a husband and two sons. Her husband died 21 years ago and one of her sons died 9 years ago. Her other son helps her. She has been unwell for a long time. After the war her health deteriorated. Her legs and hands are swollen and now she can hardly walk.

In the first days of war, she and her son were in the house. When a bomb was dropped from a plane, it exploded in their yard. At that moment, the windows, furniture and a wall began to fall. They hid in the cellar. After leaving, the ceiling of the house fell in. She did not come out of the cellar for a long time. They burned wood in the cellar so as not to freeze.

Despite everything, Oleksandra believes in the victory of Ukraine. She does not plan to leave her house. She believes that if she dies it will be in her own house.

She prays morning and evening and reads the Bible. She is supported by friends and neighbors who remained in the village. One of her friends, Lusya, died also other acquaintances and and one family. She felt so sorry for them, she cried a lot.

“Many thanks to all the sponsors, their families, their parents, their children. Thanks to them my house is being rebuilt. I hide and pray for them morning and evening.”
